Efferent — Terms of Use
These terms apply to the Efferent iOS app and the archive service at api.efferentapp.com, both provided by Stanislav Korchagin (the "developer"). By purchasing or using the app you agree to them. Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to the app itself.
The service
The app encrypts days of Apple Health on your phone and stores them in an archive the developer hosts. The developer will keep the service running and your sealed days stored for as long as the app is offered on the App Store, and for at least 12 months after any announcement that it is being discontinued, so that you can export your archive. Because the developer holds no key, the service can return your data only in sealed form; decryption always happens with your reading key, on a machine you choose.
Fair use
The service is for one person's Health history per archive. It enforces limits on the size of a day, a request and an archive, and on the rate of requests; the app stays within them in ordinary use. Attempting to create archives outside the app, to write into an archive you do not own, or to use the service for anything other than Efferent data is not permitted.
Your responsibilities
The reading key is the only thing that opens your archive. Anyone you share the connection prompt with can read every day in it. The developer cannot recover a lost key and cannot revoke a key you have shared.
No medical advice
Efferent moves and stores data; it does not interpret it. Nothing the app, the service or an agent reading your archive produces is medical advice, and the app is not a medical device.
Warranty and liability
The app and the service are provided as they are, without warranty of any kind. To the extent permitted by law, the developer is not liable for indirect or consequential damages, and total liability is limited to the amount you paid for the app.
Changes
These terms may change with a new version of the app or the service; the effective date above will change with them. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
